In XIX century the estate of Kernavele belonged to the noble family of Ruseckai. Two very famous painters of those times came from that family. They were Kanutas Ruseckas (1800-1860)and his son Boleslovas(1824-1912). The great Duke Traidenis came from Kernave too.
The first church of Kernave was restored by Zygimantas the Old in 1512, later it was strengthened. The landowners Remeriai and their relatives built a new brick chapel at the beginning of the 19 th century. The manager of the Kernave estate Ona Kareivaite-Maciuviene founded Sanctuary in 1495. The dean of it at that time was Peter Roisejus from Spain, a well known lawyer and prelate. |
